What is this Dystopian Book that I read?

It started out with this person, in a winter area, who then had to travel.
This person was fighting bears, maybe, and had to go to a central place, but it was winter, and it started out that we thought it was a man, but it was eventually revealed that it was a woman. They didn't want to leave their home, but did, and ended up at some central place to do something. It was told from the first person.
