Advice for a first-time cannabis festival attendee

I'm going to a cannabis festival in October at Harry Brown's Farm in Maine. It's my first one. What should I expect?

We are only going for one day, not the whole weekend, and we are staying overnight in a hotel, not camping at the festival. Any pro tips for a first-timer?

Since it's Maine- which, as far as I know, has not (yet) legalized weed- there may not be much actual smoking at the festival itself. No, scratch that, there will be- tons of it- but it probably won't be as communal or indiscreet as it is other, more enlightened (imho) locales.

If you're not completely set on camping out afterwards with the rest of the hippies, I heartily recommend you consider it. The festivals themselves can be fun, if there's a good selection of music, or they can be hot, overcrowded, under-loo'd, and generally tedious. But the post-fest campsites are rarely any of these things- and they're never, never tedious. The undercover paranoia is nonexistent, and all the communal stuff goes on then. In my experience, at least one of the performing bands had always stayed to camp, and a private show cloaked in pot haze is always better than any you're likely to see at the festival. Also, I've met a whole wad of like-minded folks when camping post-fest, three of who've become close friends I still see regularly.

Best answer: Marijuana is legal in Maine now. It's legal for someone 21 and over to possess up to 2.5 ounces. Smoking in public is prohibited, but since this festival is on private land, it appears it will be fine. FYI, if you check out the article I linked, it's not legal to be driving while stoned.

Haven't been to this festival, but that's a nice area, out in the country, and the YouTube videos suggest that it's pretty chill, music, belly dancers, people sitting on blankets, etc. It will be chilly in October, so dress accordingly, and maybe bring a blanket to sit on.

You can't buy and sell weed in Maine yet (except for medical), they are still working that part out. People on Craigslist get around this by advertising free MJ with a delivery fee, or gifting with a donation, etc.

So I'd say just show up, wander around, and check out the music and the rest of the sights. You should be fine.
