Good mattress topper + cheap mattress?

If you put a good mattress topper with a cheap mattress will the mattress still eventually wear out and sag, or does the topper absorb most of the wear?
I have an old mattress that is starting to sag. Instead of replacing it, I got a decent quality 2.5" foam mattress topper. I still feel the sag a bit, so I'm thinking of replacing the mattress. If I just get something cheap (say, $250 ikea semi-firm mattress), will that eventually start to sag and need replacing? Should I go ahead and just get a better mattress or just go with the cheap mattress and replace the topper when it wears out? I am under 200 lb, but in that range.

I have an IKEA mattress and a 2" memory foam topper that I bought together in 2013. Four years later there is a bit of sag in the middle. But, that's with 2 adults slightly heavier than yourself. Presumably it wouldn't sag as quickly with just you.
So, yes, based on my experience you'll still get sagging in a cheap mattress, even with a foam topper.
How about a whole memory foam mattress instead?

BUY IT TOMORROW!
July 11th is the last day of the Ikea Family Sale, sign up for the Family Card and get the discount on the MORGEDAL foam mattress.
I don't think it needs a topper, but you do you. Save your receipt - you can exchange within 5 years for the same mattress or an upgrade, 25 year warranty overall. I really like that mattress and foam is less "hot" for sleeping than latex. Our topper is a cotten/wool/foam thin futon, so we got the $399 medium firm Mybrecka, but the firm Morgedal is more comfy overall, IMHO. My spouse preferred the Mybrecka, but I know the Morgedal was overall better for less money. With the replacement warranty Ikea features, I was OK with his preference.
The sale ends tomorrow. The Mogedal is roll packed, the Mybrecka is not as easy to transport. Amazon has better deals on Memory foam toppers, and tomorrow (July 11th) is Prime Day. Read reviews.
Also, sleeplikethedead.com for mattress reviews, overall. Cheers!

A mattress topper won't fix serious issues with a mattress. It will extend the life of good to marginal mattress. It can make it more comfortable, but it can't remove inherent defects in the mattress itself.
A sagging mattress is often caused by insufficient support from the frame. In those situations, placing a piece of sturdy plywood or thick board on the frame can markedly reduce the sag, as can putting the mattress on the floor or a platform.
