Redman wept.

What are some songs whose lyrics mention "being high" as a positive feeling outside of the context of using drugs. For instance, Eddie Rabbit's I Love A Rainy Night: "I love a rainy night, You can see it in my eyes, I love a rainy night, It makes me high", or John Denver's Sunshine On My Shoulders: "Sunshine on the water looks so lovely, Sunshine almost always makes me high". The more familiar the better, but anything you might think of is great. Thanks.

Tennessee by Johnny Cash mentions spending the summertime "naturally high" because everyone is having such a great time in Tennessee.

Best answer: The Doors famously got banned from the Ed Sullivan Show for not changing the lyrics to "Light My Fire" because it could be interpreted as being about drugs. Band members differed on whether they agreed to change it, but Morrison sang the original lyrics.

You know that it would be untrue
You know that I would be a liar
If I was to say to you
Girl, we couldn't get much higher

Relatedly, Van Morrison's "And It Stoned me"
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like Jelly Roll
And it stoned me
And it stoned me to my soul
Stoned me just like goin' home
And it stoned me

Best answer: "A Wonderful Guy" from the musical South Pacific

I'm as corny as Kansas in August,
High as a flag on the Fourth of July!
If you'll excuse an expression I use,
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love, I'm in love,
I'm in love with a wonderful guy!

Rita Coolidge's 1977 cover of '(Your Love Has Lifted Me) Higher and Higher' was apparently banned in Singapore for being too suggestive, if I recall correctly(?).

I think it's sometimes a bit tricky to parse a lyricist's intentions if they're being suggestive. It might be plausible deniability, or the words might be meant to be ambiguous. A song like 'Say Hello' by April Wine is kinda flirting with being suggestive, but hey.

One thing for sure, I really believe that Rita Coolidge was not being suggestive. Her version of that tune is really straight-sounding.

If you count words like "up" and "lifted" as near-synonyms for "high," there's "When I'm Up (I Can't Get Down)" by Oysterband, later covered by Great Big Sea.

Livin' Thing - ELO
Sailin' away on the crest of a wave
It's like magic
Rollin' and ridin' and slippin' & slidin'
It's magic

[CHORUS]
And you, and your sweet desire,
You took me, higher and higher
It's a livin' thing,
It's a terrible thing to lose
It's a given thing
What a terrible thing to lose.

effluvia posted while I was looking for a link.

No specific reference to "high" that I remember, but "you can't dance and stay uptight, it's a supernatural delight" seems pretty close.

(I love that song.)
