Membership plug-ins for Wordpress

Our organisation has about 200 memberships (family, individual, comped, etc) and at present we have a series of excel files, google-forms, three different payment places to check and so forth. It makes getting new members a bad thing instead of a good one! We would love to let our members update their contact info, sign up, renew etc from our site, either as a plugin to wordpress or as a stand-alone install, I am handy enough. Integration with facebook and or chimpmail would be a bonus. Suggestions please?

Obviously I want to pay as little as possible for this but still have a decently secure system.

Take a look at CiviCRM
It covers all of the features you mention—tracking membership of different groups, connecting with payment processors, managing signups and renewals. It looks like there is Mailchimp integration and you can also set it up to send emails straight from CiviCRM based on templates and member info. It's licensed as GNU AGPL3 so it's free and free and is under active development. Installing it is a little more complicated than most Wordpress plug-ins but it sounds like you can handle it.

The stock USERS function of WP seems to cover what you want. If you need more functionality have a look at Gravity Forms, their MailChimp add-on, and the WP plugin Members.
