Help me find the same dress about 1-3 more times!

Summer approacheth, and I want a couple more dresses like this one, but not necessarily this one: Any ideas?

Things I like about dress:
Elastic waistband part gives me a waist
Neckline not too low
Not sleeveless or tiny cap sleevelet things that make my arms look weird
Skirt goes to knee and is kind of full
Machine washable

Things I don't like about dress:
I'd buy it again, but it would be nice if it were a different color than the gray-black-dark-blue-off-white that most items of clothing here comes in. Or like if it had a pattern!

The ideal dress:
Is not sleeveless or bitty sleeves, but sleeves as in Uniqlo dress or longer
Has a neckline no more revealing than Uniqlo dress
Has a skirt as long as or longer, as full or preferably fuller than Uniqlo dress
Is machine washable
Has a waist!!!!1 (WHY is every other dress sold in Japan actually a DRAB LOOKING NIGHTGOWN)
Ships to Japan or is sold in Japan
Bonus points for Etsy and/or environmentally friendly, ethical manufacturing process

Thank you!

Mod note: Sacchan, when you check the thread, can you give us the link for the first "this one" you mention? Thanks.

Response by poster: Hi, thanks, there is no other link though! Sorry. The wording is more confusing than I intended.
I am looking for a dress like the one in the link.

Best answer: Hopefully you'll get some better answers, but if you can't find what you are looking for from another seller, you could try buying the Uniqlo dress and dyeing it.

You could also look for a local seamstress to knock out a couple of copies for you in the fabric of your choice.

Best answer: I'm having some luck searching for "shirred waist dress", "stretch waist dress", or "elastic waist dress short sleeve". See for instance...
- Stretch waist, split-shoulder, tulip skirt black dress, $69 USD
- Elastic waist, lace applique at collar & sleeves, bright green, $15 USD

"Stretch waist shirt dress short sleeves" might be an even better search term, because high collars, full skirts, and short sleeves are more standard/traditional on a shirt dress anyway.
- This one is pretty dang cute - multi-colored elastic waist shirtdress, $60 USD
- A-line shirt dress, white, $460 USD

Modcloth has a similar dress and it appears they ship internationally.
They have other variations on this dress so look through the other dresses. They have a good reputation and many of my friends shop with them.

Threads 4 Thought sometimes has similar dresses. They're mostly sustainable / eco-friendly cotton. Perhaps this, this, or this might work?

Maybe this Modcloth dress with lace sleeves? It's a different fabric but I don't see the fabric listed as one of your requirements. And I'm sure it's machine washable (though I'd put it in a mesh bag to protect the lace).

Also, try adding a belt to some of the shapeless nightgown dresses. I have a dress from Korea (also Uniqlo) that becomes way different with a belt and/or cardigan.

Best answer: with the caveat that I HATE them and they may be more expensive/formal than you want: Boden specializes in the silhouette you want, with sleeves and color and patterns, and does ship to Japan although it may take a while. only thing is some of the ones that suit your criteria the best look to me like they might be too heavy to be good summer dresses. this one is the closest to the sample dress you linked to - almost perfect except it's not machine washable, though most of the other dresses I linked are. (note that the bad reviews on this one are from people who think the neckline is too high & the hemline too low!)

or this. Any lightweight wrap dress will give you the skirt shape and waist definition you want. necklines are usually too low and a pain in the ass, but you can easily adjust them by pinning without tailoring if you want to.

Have you tried Asos? I buy there quite often. It's not the most ethical, though. (And I really should stop buying there...)

I live in Japan as well and haven't shopped for clothes hhere in forever. Do you shop at Uniqlo because, like me, they're one of the only places you can actually find things in your size? (I'm not saying OP is big, but clothes in Japan usually come in tiny and tinier.) Have you found a Honey's near you? I'm not sure if this fits your requirements, but they get new stuff fairly often.

Oh, and I found this on this Uniqlo website.

Response by poster: Hey thank you everybody! I took the plunge and bought a couple:

One large shirtdress looking thing from Uniqlo, in white, which I plan to dye

One swan-print dress from Boden (thank you Boden-haters for biting the bullet and mentioning them!!) with an added bonus that they *took* the Paypal gift money that had been sitting around in my account due to address/country issues so it cost me next to nothing

LooneyLovegood, thank you! I'm eyeballing that black dress and will check out Honey's. Even in the sticks of Iwate we have them apparently.

Yeah, you are correct. OP does not feel particularly large, but Uniqlo is just barely my size if I go for LL, and is one of like 2 stores where I can buy pants.

I just bought a bunch of these and I'm quite happy with them. Cheap, but don't look/feel particularly cheap. Interesting colors and some stripes.
