iPhone + Verizon woes

I have a iPhone SE with Verizon as my carrier. I'm assuming this is a iPhone problem, but who knows anymore?

When I am away from wi-fi and on Verizon's network, I have problems with a couple apps thinking that I'm offline. The problem seems to mostly lie with Google stuff.

1. Looking for directions, Google Maps says I'm offline. Apple Maps and WAZE work fine.
2. On the internet using Safari, Google won't load but things like UPS tracking do.
3. Checking weather, sometimes Weather Bug works, sometimes it doesn't.

Apple Mail checking gmail works fine.

Turning cell data off and on doesn't help.

What am I doing wrong? Is the iPhone, Verizon or Google (with the exception of Weather Bug) the cause of my woes?

Best answer: Is it possible you have some apps set to work only on wifi?

These sound like DNS issues to me, which would indicate a problem with your LTE connection.

I've noticed that occasionally a site won't load on my (Verizon) SE, but that if I then configure it to run as a personal hotspot, dig out my Mini, and connect through it, it will. I have wondered if it's some kind of memory issue.

As rtha mentioned above, go to Settings > Cellular Data and make sure data usage for those apps is turned on.

Have you powered the phone itself down completely, and then turned it back on?

Apologies because it's an obvious solution, but worth double-checking. My phone was being wonky lately, and a restart fixed its issues.

I had Google Maps claim to be offline once. Force-quitting the app and re-launching fixed it.
(Double-click the Home button to get the app switcher, drag up on Google Maps to force-quit it.)

Response by poster: Google Maps was due to not having cell data turned on for the app. But the other problems remain. I did restart and that didn't help. I force quit Safari and relaunched but that didn't solve my Google problem. Same with Weather Bug, it randomly works and randomly doesn't.

I love my iPhone, but really....

The fact that some websites load and some don't means it's most likely a problem with Verizon's network.
