Are nonprofits suffering in 2017? If so, GOT SOURCES?

I'd swear I recently heard a news segment about how smaller nonprofits not focused on human rights or health or the environment are seeing massive drops in charitable giving because those funds are being funneled elsewhere. Is this true?

My Google Fu is failing me. Tons of articles from November speculate on the election's effect on nonprofits, but they emphasize federal cuts and talk about the large national nonprofits. Some of those articles focus on how nonprofits will benefit, but they're talking about the ones that have been seeing a surge in support as a direct result of the threats of the current administration: PP, ACLU, Sierra Club and others.

I'm more interested in learning if and how smaller nonprofits are suffering as a result.

Specifically, has the surge in individual donations to the aforementioned organizations been a result of citizens redirecting their charitable giving dollars? Are smaller (especially local and regional) nonprofits taking a hit? Surely there have been surveys that looked at year-end giving, or the first couple of months of 2017. Looking for articles and documentation on the subject. Thanks!

You can read Blackbaud's 2016 charitable giving report by requesting it here: https://institute.blackbaud.com/asset/2016-charitable-giving-report/

(BlackBaud's software is what TONS of organizations use for their fund-raising, and they know their stuff.)
