How do I stop by cursor from blinking?

I'd like my cursor to not blink -- I would rather it remained a solid line that did not flash on and off. Particularly when I'm using Word. I am running Mac OS X 10.9.5 and using Word for Mac 2011. What would be the best way to do this?

You can try this at the command line.

defaults write -g NSTextInsertionPointBlinkPeriodOn -float 1000000
defaults write -g NSTextInsertionPointBlinkPeriodOff -float 10

May need to restart the computer afterwards. Should work with most things; may not work with Word as Office for Mac can be a bit independent and not rely on universal settings.

Scrivener has an option to turn off cursor blinking.
