Food delivery / Senior services for rural parents?

My parents live across Lake Pontchartrain from New Orleans, in the St. Tammany parish. Lately, neither of them has been able to get around much at all. Do any grocery stores down there deliver? Are there any Meals on Wheels type services? Any sort of senior services?

My dad has diabetes and needs to eat regularly and well for his blood sugar, but he can't always make it to the car, let alone drive, and there is not always nutritious food in the house.

They don't need help paying for food, and they would probably be willing to pay for delivery. But they do need help with logistics!

Best answer: COAST appears to be the local agency on aging, and I found this directory of social services in the parish. This article on the parish government website suggests they may be able to get cheap rides to the grocery, at least. Rouses, Winn Dixie, and Wal-Mart are the main grocery options and none deliver. Do they have neighbors? I could imagine them placing an in-store pickup order and paying a neighbor kid a little money to pick the order up for them. We also have Uber in New Orleans, although I don't know what the coverage is like on the North Shore. Services like Blue Apron etc. could be an option as well.

Best answer: Have you looked into places like Peapod? Or maybe Schwans?

Best answer: If they can prepare their own meals, Amazon delivers lots of groceries. Also there are places like Hello Fresh and Blue Apron will deliver. HF has options for 3 meals for 2 or 4 people, so they may need to have more than one service to cover the entire week. They would also need to keep up with the weekly meal plan to pick what meals they want.
