Help me find a psychiatrist in Atlanta

I need a doctor in or near Atlanta to help me manage my panic disorder, but I have no idea how to find a good one.

When I moved to Atlanta a couple years ago, I really, really liked my doctor in another city and decided to keep seeing him instead of finding somebody closer to home. Back then, my schedule was flexible enough that occasionally making a drive for an appointment wasn't a burden. But my work situation changed abruptly, I've been incredibly busy, and it's now a lot harder for me to make time to see somebody so far away. As a consequence my anxiety/panic is essentially no longer being treated. This is terrible. I really should find a new doctor as soon as possible.

But I have no clue how I'm supposed to pick one! There's no shortage of psychiatrists in this city, but I don't have a way to filter through the Google results and find one that's right for me.

Can anybody who has personal experience with a great doctor in Atlanta recommend one to me? Any location in the Atlanta metro area would be fine.

If you are insured, call your insurance company and ask for a list of in-network options. Unfortunately just because there are a lot of MDs in an area, it doesn't mean you can get in quickly. Usually psych appts take 6-8 weeks. So, get a provider list and then do some googling. It is oftentimes a crap shoot but some folks have online profiles or reviews. Reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. Another route: if you see a therapist, they might be able to recommend someone because they know their community resources better than an insurance company might. Your primary care doc may also have recommendations.

Between a list of approved providers and hopefully some local advice, you should at least be able to get your options narrowed down. Good luck.

Dr. RB seems really great - a coworker of mine goes to him, and that is where I take my niece. Here is his website. He does have later appointments, but does not accept insurance - I think he will help you with the forms if you want to file it yourself for reimbursement. Feel free to memail me if you have any specific questions about him.
