Inexpensive, kid-friendly, currently snowy places to stay in the Lake Tahoe area? Bonus points for rustic/cabin/B&B atmosphere!

we stayed at northstar a few years ago... definitely family friendly, im not sure about "inexpensive". Sugar bowl is probably your least expensive place to ski if I remember right.

Stay at the Clair Tappaan Lodge, which is an old-stlye, rough-around-the-edges, family ski lodge run by the sierra club. It's quite cheap -- about $50 a night for adults, and I think meals are included (either that or they are cheap). Accomodations are are bunk beds, etc.--but it's a great, homey place that I loved as a kid. There's x-country skiing right out back, and it's a 20-30 minute drive to a bunch of the big downhill resorts.

For the record currently there is no snowy places in Lake Tahoe. Let's all hope for cooler weather and snow, not rain.

"...currently snowy..."

Keep in mind it's wet and rainy in the Tahoe region right now. The recent rainstorms have melted most of the snow -- you aren't going to have snow to play in.

I don't know about current weather, but I do know Granlibakken offers reasonable rates and they have either single rooms or multi-bedrooms most will full kitchens (fridge, stove, pots/plates/silverware and dishwasher). In my past job as a conference planner, we stayed there many years over the summer and it was great. They also have shuttles that run to the nearby ski resorts.

As far as rustic/cabin, they do have some great units that fit your bill. Bed and breakfast? Yes, sort of, they have a dining room that fits your requirement. When we were there meals were included as part of the stay, or you could cook in your own kitchen. It is not at all like staying at a luxury hotel... but they are very clean, comfortable, and friendly.

I have no current ties to the place, but I can tell you that the staff is great and we always had a great time there over the summers. If you have any more questions, hit me up on my email address in my profile.

Response by poster: Thank you, everyone! I will check into several of your suggestions and the current weather conditions before we head up the hill :)
