Good Asset Management solution with Mobile App that does barcode scan?

Looking for an overall hardware and software package, that also includes barcode scanner app which can be installed on Android or iPhones
I was wondering if the hive mind knows what the leading brand or solution is that is being used in Universities or Colleges to keep track of where hardware assets are on/off campus. While a single vendor would be great, it could be a mix of 2 different vendors to form the overall solution.
Hypothetical scenario: if a school is loaning out iPads to student, there’s probably some kind of barcode and RFID scanner which updates a central asset register
Again needs to include a barcode scanner app that runs on Android/iPhone devices.
Also open to hear anecdotal experiences good and bad

FileWave used to be nice but I haven't seen it first hand since like 2001.
Lots of the players got bought up and combined with other tools, so that companies could offer a vertically-integrated system of help desk software plus asset tracking plus patch management plus whatever. We're a .edu and we use...dang, I don't know what it is. Probably Altiris, which I think now belongs to Symantec? for the PCs, plus Jamf for some mobile devices.
