My first tattoo

Who is the single best japanese style tattoo artist in NYC?

I want to get my first tattoo... a japanese dragon on my forearm. I am doing a profound amount of research into authentic japanese woodcuts and paintings of dragons and I want one that is very authentic but I also have specific desires. However, most importantly is I want a tattoo that is incredibly detailed, highly saturated, sharp, crisp, extremely creatively designed and true to the actual tradition. I don't want to go to just any shop and end up with a washed out, blurry-lined, run of the mill dragon. I want the best artist and I'm willing to pay for it. So, I'm sure there is debate, but, who is considered the best traditional japanese tattoo artist in either NYC or the tri-state area if they are not in NYC. I'm looking for ink master level work here.

Brian Faulk at Hand Of Glory/ The End is Near in Brooklyn did gorgeous Japanese phoenix and blackbird pieces for me. Highly recommended! http://www.brianfaulktattoo.com

Response by poster: Siouxsiesmith do you have pictures of the phoenix that he did for you?

This may be off topic, but you may want to research photos of this style of tattoo that are healed, none of those freshly-aquaphor'd photos people take right after getting inked.

You can for sure get an awesomely detailed tattoo done (sorry I have no NYC recommendations, ask me about Raleigh!), but "sharp, crisp" lines and details can and will fade, so I wouldn't go in expecting print quality work as it's not realistic. Skin is a very dynamic medium, but that's what makes tattoos so unique when well done! Good luck in getting inked, it'll look awesome, post photos! :)

I don't have specific recommendations BUT I highly recommend Instagram for this type of research - I just searched #nyctattooartist and came up with over 7000 posts. Of course that's a wide net to cast but you will be able to narrow down quickly once you scroll through.
