How do I make a VBA macro run "silently" in the background?

I have a macro in an excel sheet that successfully displays or hides tabs in the workbook based on the value in a particular cell. I'm pleased with this! There's a problem, though...

When the tabs are "unhidden", there's a brief lag. The screen is basically showing a split second of each newly visible tab. I would like for this to occur completely in the background, such that the user does not see anything other than new tabs appearing at the bottom of the workbook.

Is this possible?

Try wrapping your hiding/showing code with:

Application.ScreenUpdating = False

... do yer thing here ...

Application.ScreenUpdating = True
