Louis Gossett Jr. Easter Alien for Xmas?

Help identify this bizarre Christmas morning Easter movie... [mi]
My boyfriend remembers a movie that played on local tv in boston in the mid-eighties. The movie featured an alien (possibly played by Louis Gossett Jr) who was captured by the government on Easter morning. They interrogated him and eventually determined that he was an alien, who was on earth to spread a message of peace. They let him go, and he returned to his home planet. Does anyone else remember this??
