Google groups with a non gmail address?

I have been invited to join a google group for work. I do not want to join with my personal email. I have received the invitation via my university address. I cannot seem to accept the invitation.

When I "accept invitation" it gives me the following message.

Unfortunately, you were unable to join the group XXXX WORKING GROUP
The following error occurred:

You are using a different account than the intended recipient of the invitation.
Please sign in to the correct account.

Make sure you are attempting to join the group with the same account that received the group invitation.

I have tried signing into my google account. I have tried signing out of my google account. I have no idea what I am doing but I know I should be able to accept this invitation.

Please tell me how to do it like I am not a computer savvy adult, because I am currently not feeling like a computer savvy adult.

Best answer: Have you tried:

1) Opening the link in another browser (especially if you are using Chrome)?

2) Creating a Google account for your university address and then clicking the link?

I usually email a mod and ask them to invite me again, with the address that I prefer.

Response by poster: Thank you ssg. I created a google account with my university address. I wish they didn't make it so difficult!
