Good Sites that Review Hair Color

I've started coloring my hair at home. I have found many sites that offer reviews for these products, but they are organized by product, not by color. For example, on Amazon, all reviews for L'Oreal Preference are all in a clump. What I'd like to find is a site where people have commented on specific colors. For example, I'd like a set of reviews for L'Oreal Preference Medium Ash Blonde (8A). I realize I can search Amazon by keyword, but I feel like there must be something out there that does a better job of organizing this.

Ultimately, my personal interest is in a comparison of all the Medium Blonde shades out there. I don't want anything that will turn my hair red or give it grey tones. I also don't want to look like a yellow crayon.

It's patchy, but Makeup Alley has reviews for shades.

Response by poster: It *is* a bit patchy. There are only one or two reviews for each color. Maybe the reason is that color can end up looking so different on difference people? The last color I used was Nice 'n' Easy Medium Ash Blonde (8A), but I definitely don't want to use it again. It turned out so red! I don't like it at all, but I wanted to wait 4 weeks so that my hair would stay healthy.

It really does surprise me that there aren't more reviews. I just see a lot of very specific YouTube videos.

Best answer: I'd actually recommend instead of box dyes like L'Oreal to start using professional dyes instead. Cheaper and better, and so easy. Just go to a Sallys and buy a brush, something to mix in dye in, gloves, processing caps, the dye you want, and a 20 or 30 developer. I in particular love Pravana and Ion colour. You can find lots of reviews for the different colours on the Sallys website. I've bought in their store and also the products I picked out online on Amazon.

Also, I see your note about your hair turning red- is your hair originally dark? I'm not sure if the L'Oreal box dyes include bleaching. Bleaching will turn dark hair orange or red first. I have Asian black hair that I've bleached blonde and it went through a red/orange phase first. You can do a bleach cap on your own hair (I'd recommend a good bleach like Schwarzkopf and adding Olaplex if you can find it) but you'll probably need to do it more than once to get as much of the red/orange out as possible, then tone it with an ash blonde dye (I use Wella + a bit of Pravana violet semi-permanent). Also rest your hair for at least a week before bleaching again.

Response by poster: My hair was very light platinum blonde as a child and teenager. Now it is a dark ash blonde with a few greys. The greys masqueraded as highlights for a while, but they are starting to "win" and are making my hair look pretty drab.

So no. It's not dark.
