Good blogs/mailing lists for Mission Terrace/Excelsior

I'm interested in finding some good local blogs or mailing lists for the Mission Terrace/Excelsior neighborhood of San Francisco. My fiancée and I are moving there in a month and would like to start to understand what's happening in the neighborhood, and it seems that this is one of the better ways of doing it from afar. I'm primarily interested in online resources, but any good local tips would also be appreciated.
If you're on Facebook you might want to check out the Excelsior District - San Francisco group. (While I don't live in the Excelsior, I do belong to my own SF neighborhood's FB group and I sort of unexpectedly love it - I've made a number of friends via the group and it really has helped enhance the overall community vibe. Also: it's vastly better than Nextdoor, which, as jasper411 notes above, can be way, way too crazy-pants.)

There's also this community blogging thing that's showing up a lot - Nextdoor. You subscribe to your neighborhood and suddenly learn about everything that anyone thinks is important (yard sales, lost dogs, break-ins, abandoned cars, etc.) Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be moderated, so conversations can go deep into rants very quickly. I started being enthusiastic about it, but after one person's plea about how people misunderstand pitbulls became a raging crazy-fest, I stopped looking at it, except *very* occasionally.
