Looking for the new old Byron Bay

My in-laws live in Sydney and are looking to move to an area within NSW, Queensland or Victoria which fits their beach-loving, eco-conscious young family. Details within:
The ideal location:
- is coastal
- fairly rural (or at least not in a city)
- has a community which has a focus on sustainability and eco-friendliness (interest in farming, growing their own produce, homesteading etc)
- has nearby schools, hospitals and amenities essential for a young family
- is within a 2 hour drive from an airport
Broadly speaking they are looking for a place which has the vibe of old Bryon Bay, if such a place exists. Thanks!

Ocean Shores and Brunswick are very close to Byron. Lovely little towns.

I have friends that live in Milton, NSW. It would probably tick all your boxes, except it's more like three hours to an airport.
