Quick: where should we walk around Austin tonight?

What is the best street to hang out on in Austin?

We like to walk! We also like food, beer, weird stores, and lots of pedestrians, so Austin seems great so far. We are staying on South Congress so have walked around there; wandered down E 6th which seems like...less our scene. No car, but happy to take a bus or Lyft. We're here tonight and tomorrow.

Rainey Street is pretty nice - Banger's has delicious sausages, and my beer geek friends love Craft Pride.

Oh yeah, 2nd Rainey ... if you get down in the afternoon you can stroll by the river. Then Blackheart for fancy cocktails. The street portion is only 3 or 4 blocks though. Add the river and you've got more of a stroll. And you can learn the interesting story of Geraldine, the guinea fowl.

Start at dusk at the river; I don't know if the bridge bats will be out in force tonight, yet it's a nice kick-off to an evening. Hit up Cheer Up Charlie's for beer, then Uber (Lyft in Austin? Hah!) to Rainey Street to check out the food trucks; my faves being G'Raj Majal (Indian) and, if you're lucky, Chi'Lantro (Kimchi Fries).

East sixth is also good for a bar- and food-laden night, but a little worse off since Cheer Up's moved their cherubs-of-patrons (and alcohol) further downtown.

I'm guessing that by "E 6th" you actually mean "dirty 6th," which is 6th street from Congress Ave to I-35. College bar hell. You want actual east 6th, which is 6th from just east of I-35 down to Chicon.

Welcome to Austin! Please don't move here. :)

Duval and 43rd; E. of the coffee shop. Lots to watch, plenty to drink, good eats too. Safe; and ask about Tychis/Kirby. Cheers and beers, enjoy.
