Scratched Oakleys: My girlfriend just scratched her Oakley Haylons (Cork / VR28 Gold Iridium lenses), and is kicking herself. Can I help? (What are my lens repair/replacement options?)

Bummer. Oakley lenses are Iridium coated and require special care. I don't think you can buff any scratches out without further destroying the lens surface.

That being said the lenses are made to be interchangeable with the original frame. It's quite easy to replace them.

I'd suggest taking the sunglasses to an Oakley dealer and have them replace the scratched lens.

You could try e-mailing or calling them. Here is their website.

Ditto BoscosMom, I did that a few years ago and they sent me a whole new pair! They were very cool. (I actually sat on mine and broke them.)

I used to work in a store selling Oakleys, and we dealt with service/repair issues all the time. Here's the problem: Oakley does not warranty their lenses. The only thing that you can 'officially' do is buy new lenses from them, probably running you about 100 bucks-ish. Oakley does however warranty their frames. If you take in a pair with a broken temple/arm, they will just replace that arm. If, however, you bring in a pair that have a frame that is cracked or broken in the main 'body' part of the glasses, the company will most likely just replace the whole pair of glasses. So, you know, nudge nudge, maybe those scratched glasses also have a big crack in plastic frame? Hint hint.

We told our customers this all the time - "um, come back tomorrow with these totally broken, and we'll replace them." Oakley never gave us (the retailer) a problem.

Heh. My gf sent her glasses in; they had lenses scratched all to heck, the padding over the earpieces was harshed, and the frame had a small crack at one of the joints. She got a completely new pair free.

Oakley metal framed glasses are the most durable pair of sunglasses (I have the a-wires, she has I think the half wires) that either of us has ever owned. Ours have both been through three or four years of motorcycle and horse riding, camping, daily use while driving, lack of being encased, cleaned with improper surfaces, etc... completely crazy stuff.
