Inland Empire Travel - This Sucks!

I am having a hard time coordinating travel from Pomona to Palm Springs, CA and could use some insider/local help.

I need to get from Pomona to Palm Springs on a Friday evening in April, and then my mother and I need to get from Palm Springs to ONT airport early the following Monday morning. It seems car services/shuttles are in the $140/range (yikes!) and I'm wondering:

1) Would an Uber would be cheaper?
2) Is there some sort of secret that locals know, a regular bus route or something?
3) If anyone has a recommendation for a hidden gem car service, taxi, etc.?
or 4) If anyone in the area wants to give us a lift for some cash or knows someone who does.

We'll be there the weekend BEFORE Coachella, so thankfully missing the crazy.

I would (and have in the past) used a rental car for exactly that situation. Is that an option for you?

Response by poster: Should have clarified - neither of us are able to drive while on this trip.

Check into the train from Pomona to Palm Springs, though that would be awful from Palm Springs to Ontario. For that, maybe an airport shuttle service?

Ah. Driving is what the locals do (and why there are few other options).

Uber will give you an estimate of the cost, which looks lower than the car services you cited.

Well, the Metrolink will take you from Pomona to San Bernardino. I'm not sure how to get to Palm Springs from SB apart from driving. CSUSB has shuttles from campus to Palm Desert and back. Again, not sure how useful that is.

From Pomona to Palm Springs, I'd take Amtrak; current ticket prices look to be about $35.
