What do you know about intensive couples therapy/retreats?

Have you attended an intensive couples therapy retreat, or gone through an intensive couples therapy experience? Do you know about outstanding programs that are worth traveling for? Please, please share with us. My partner and I are going through a crisis, and we're looking into intensive couples therapy and retreats to jumpstart our work. We are interested in considering all excellent programs, but we are also open to hearing about terrific therapists in the Chicagoland area who may be willing to work with us intensively. If you worked with an amazing therapist in the Chicago area, please let us know. We are having a super difficult time right now and would be grateful for information and recommendations.

Additional information that may be useful:

- In general, the issues we are working out revolve around midlife crisis feelings and behaviors, and lack of intimacy and emotional connection. We need help figuring out how to address these issues, and we need it soon.
- Generally, we are more interested in tailored therapy versus group/bootcamp/activity based programs.
- We are not religious and would not attend a program grounded in religious practice.
- We are willing to pay a reasonable amount of money for help, but probably could not swing the prices of some places we have found thus far, which seem to be in the $6500-$11000 range for one weekend.
- We have annoying and restrictive insurance, and are working on getting a referral for longterm therapy as well, but this may take a while. We attended therapy recently with a therapist who was a very poor fit, and we are waiting on a new referral. We want to start making interventions before therapy through insurance can (probably) start happening.
- We want to hear about nationally recognized places, but would also LOVE recommendations for outstanding therapists in Chicagoland. They may be willing to work with us intensively (and/or we may elect to self-pay if our insurance cannot refer us to an adequate therapist).

We have looked through previous questions but did not find one focusing on intensive work and/or retreats.

Thank you.

I think the Gottman workshops are pretty close in line to what you want (I just read a long article about them, and I know the Gottman work in general is quite science- and practice-based, but have little experience in this area myself). There are events here.

I work with the Marriage Boot Camp people. (No commission, or even paycheck...) and have done so for many years.

Its 4 days, and I can and will give my employee discount to anyone. (I think it knocks $400 off the couples fee)

https://www.marriagebootcamp.com/attend/dates-locations/

I'm most familiar with the Houston group, and they generally have a middle sized attendance; Dallas has the most, Atlanta the least.

We work on a lot of practical skills: Communications, love languages, conflict resolution, hot button issues, boundaries, purpose in life, passions, and past hurts that can be interfering with your current life, goals, and marriage. There are some activities with the full group, but mostly it is in small groups of 4 people, with assistance from the staff, or one on one discussions and exercises.

The founders and many of the staff are all varieties of Christian, but as an accepting agnostic, I never felt pressured. The seminar does mention religion in a few drills, but 95% of the program has absolutely noting to do with faith, God, church, etc.

I'll answer any questions I can (Please message me to make sure I see them!) and I absolutely wish yall the best of luck... and am glad yall are willing to work on things!
