Who can name this game from the late 90s?

I played it in 1998-1999, using my PC with a 3DFX card. The character was controlled from a first-person perspective in 3D, and the game was very immersive - you were walking around a planet, with grass and water. There were bunny-like animals that wandered up to you; you could kill them (though that wasn’t the point of the game). That’s just about all I can recall. Any ideas, guys?

Seconding Outcast. Guy in an orange suit, aliens with long, brown faces in rice fields and vaguely arabic-type cities, energy weapons?

Best answer: Sounds more like Unreal. (Pre Tournament)
