Help my identify these Santa Claus blow molds...

Can the hive elves help me identify information about this Santa Claus blow mold? I have eight matching versions of these, each 10" high. Photo in the extended explanation...

The bottom appears to be where a bulb would go. I don't know if the hole on top, which each has, was added or is original, possibly to string these, or allow for heat to escape?

Here's somebody selling the same item via Terapeak. They don't explain in detail how to use it, but they do identify it as "blow molds ... from around the 1940-1950's." It appears that the hole in the top is original.
