Tools for doodle-ish animations.

I'd like to make interactive canvas/HTML animations, something like Google's recent Beethoven doodle. What tools should I use?

I'm looking for editors and/or frameworks to make it easier, faster and better.
I use to do a lot of Flash animation, with a smidgen of Actionscript. I currently develop websites using Python+Django and HTML, CSS, Javascript.

Flash CC has the ability to export to HTML5 Canvas. They're still working on it, it's not perfect, but it's not bad and it's nice and familiar if you have experience with Flash. If you go this route, a big change from the usual Flash workflow I recommend is using raster assets instead of vector art for the most part because Canvas is pretty much garbage at rendering complex vector artwork.

As a non-flash, more of an HTML+CSS person, I've heard of Tumult Hype, but I can't say I've used it to do anything.
