What's the state of teachers in my state?

How can I find numbers comparing the number of new teachers in Wisconsin to other states, or to prior years? Also, is it possible to compare the compensation packages in WI school districts?

I'm posting this for a friend. She would like to know the state of teachers in our state, Wisconsin. We found a number referencing a decline in the number of teaching licenses, but it was a 2013 article about 2010 numbers. Can you help me find anything more current? Are there less people becoming teachers?
She would also like to compare the compensation packages of smaller WI school districts. (She works in a rural northern WI district and suspects their compensation is relatively low even compared to other small towns, but does not have evidence of this).
A little background: This is my beloved friend who is a big Scott Walker supporter. She's also a teacher. I'm kind of shocked she asked me about this, tbh. But I'd love to help her find detailed information and hey, maybe she's seeing the light about Gov. Walker.

Best answer: Here's a ton of information from the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction, including salary by district.

Here's a fairly recent comparison of states.

Here's an NPR piece about the teacher shortage that's pretty balanced.

There are tons of recent articles on the teacher shortage, just google the phrase and then use the search tools to narrow the results to the past year. Otherwise you get a lot of out-of-date results.
