Looking for for a straight razor set for a beginner as an xmas gift.

I am building handmade suitcases for gifts this year, and I would like to include a decent straight razor set in one of them. I have spent a lot of time searching for ones that have good reviews and they are few and far between. Hopefully there is someone out there that has experience with these and can recommend a quality set for a beginner.

Seconding W_E on reddit. They've got some good suggestions, with variations for different budgets for "get started" kits. Just be aware that a lot of the sellers are boutique online operations out of someone's spare room, so getting an SR shipped in time for Christmas... potentially iffy at this stage.

Likewise there's the newer subreddit /r/Wet_Shavers (which is a slightly less circle-jerky than W_E), which has its wiki here. Nota bene the DO NOT BUY list. There's a lot of crap brands out there.

I neglected to realize that metafilter ate my link. Sorry! Anyway, Sunburnt said everything I meant to and more.

Also check out Badger and Blade. They even have a Straight Razor Wiki. I used to be quite active there when I first began getting into wet shaving. Tons of useful advice and product reviews.

Straight Razors didn't work out for me, but I did end up trying a couple out. For entry level ease of use and price point, many people suggest Dovo.
