Where do I buy glacé fruit in NYC?

Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and the mom-and-pops in a five block radius of my house don't have glacé fruit, and I just moved to Queens and don't know where to go for it. I want cherries (ideally the green and red dyed ones), orange peel, pineapple, but NO CITRON. I don't care how much it costs or if it's fancy or not, but it needs to go in a fruitcake by Monday and I need a couple pounds of each. If they definitely have some and can sell it to me on a weekend or an evening after 7, I'll travel pretty far. Help!

Best answer: I've seen them at Buon Italia in the Chelsea Market.

Sahadi's in Brooklyn Heights carries them. Don't know where you are in Queens but the 2, 3, 4, 5, or G will get you there, or very near.

Kalustyan's in midtown probably carries them. Zabar's and/or Fairway might as well.

Oh, the mention of Kalustyan's reminded me: if you're in or near Jackson Heights, have you tried Patel Brothers? No idea if they carry them but if you're near there it's worth a look.

Best answer: If all else fails, a bakery or grocery store that makes fruitcake might be willing to sell them to you by the pound. I remember there were usually a couple people who came by wanting just that, and it was easy enough to put it in a container and slap a price sticker on it.

Best answer: You might want to call Russ & Daughters - they might have them. Formaggio Kitchen at the Essex Street Market may have them - you could call them too.

Formaggio has very high end stuff - delicious but has its uses.

for bog standard glace fruit of an acceptable quality I suggest Buon Italia@ Chelsea Market. IIRC Kalyustans had a weaker selection.

Best answer: Seconding Buon Italia. I was just there only a week ago and saw it with my own eyes.

Also seconding Sahadi's because they have everything at that damn place (which is why I have to guard my wallet carefully upon entering). Note that Sahadi's is closed on Sundays, but is open on Saturdays.

Most Indian grocery stores will carry it. Look for tutti-frutti.

Mondel's on 114th and Broadway should have them, in Manhattan.

Seconding Sahadi's. Last year, I walked to at least 10 dagastinos in the city in search of the red cherries (found green in some cases, which drove my search to keep trying), and eventually did somewhere mid-town, very east. Then randomly went into Sahadi's and they had a million.

Happy baking!

Response by poster: Thank you! Buon Italia had most of what I needed-- no pineapple and no green cherries, but what they did was high quality and more importantly, available right now. Thanks for the tips! Everyone in this thread helped save Christmas.
