Find me the quietest hair dryer.

I need to find a discontinued Vidal Sassoon Quiet Traveler Hair Dryer or something just like it.

My mother has a Vidal Sassoon Quiet Traveler hair dryer that she loves. Sadly, the handle is very cracked, and this product is no longer in production. I have contacted the company, but they do not have any more in stock. It's sold out on Amazon. There are some former eBay listings, but nothing current. This dryer looks similar, but I haven't found any reviews attesting to it being quiet. Please help me either 1. Magically find this exact hair dryer, or 2. Recommend a dryer that is as similar as possible.

Essential points:
- The dryer must be VERY VERY quiet-- the quietest possible
- It must be small and able to fold for traveling ease
- Good drying capability
- Under $100

I think the search you want is "silent blow dryer". Amazon has many examples.

Sharper Image has a range of silent hair dryers--available on their website and on Amazon.

Response by poster: Running the term "silent blow dryer," I still don't find a blow dryer that is both quiet AND foldable.

I don't know if there's a portable version, but the Babyliss "pro ceramic" dryer I have, which is smaller and is about ~$80 is the quietest dryer I've ever heard. On the "low" fan setting, which still puts out way more air than most cheap dryers, it's like a loud laptop with less whine. It makes noise, but it's of the rushing air variety, not some kind whine or mechanical/resonating sound. It's lasted a long time, and the salon my friend rents a chair at uses them.

It replaced a fairly quiet dryer too, a Solis. Which was 11/10 for reliability but fairly loud in comparison.

There are newer solis(and other higher end/commercial salon brand) models that use advanced "turbine" type blowers like some newer hepa filters(or centrifugal commercial filtration units, i.e. in indoor agricultural systems) that are VERY quiet. They cost easily double that price though.

If you go to a large beauty supply shop, you will be able to play with the dryers and test the level of them at various settings.

I have not seen a truly high quality folding dryer that is quiet. It's one or the other. And the quiet ones barely put out any air at too high of a temp. Boo.

Do you need it to be quiet for you? I use foam earplugs when I blow dry my hair. Just a thought if it's bothering you, no suggestions if you're trying not to wake someone else.
