E-ink devices, have you tried one ? How does it feel ? This guy was rather disappointed with Sony Librie. This chinese company apparently produces (and sell, where, who, how much ?) two functional clone without the DRM bull. That'd be a nice xmas present for geeks.

I saw one of the first E-Ink displays in person about a year ago, a book reader device a friend brought back from Japan. The display was quite beautiful. I wouldn't confuse it for paper, but definitely a lot nicer to read than an LCD. Low power, too. Can't comment on the software at all, but the display hardware is quite cool.

I'm not sure where I read it, but apparently you can find some software cracks for the Sony Librie that allow you to use non-DRM books...from what I recall, it was kind of a pain in the ass, though...stupid Sony, always making it hard for themselves...

After reading about the alternate e-Ink devices, I searched far and wide for *anyplace* that sold them.

I found none.

I used the Sony Librie over the summer and LOVED it. I don't know about DRM or anything like that on it... and you certainly can't expect anything more than reading since you actually watch the scren refresh, but it is BEAUTIFUL to look at. I honestly thought it was some time of fake since it looked so much like a printout or something to me... Just my two cents

I have one and I love it. Bought it last year and now it goes with me on business trips everywhere (instead of a bag full of books).
As for getting around DRM:
