Wedding Band Search

Rings, not music. Looking for jewelry stores in the GTA. Specs within.

We's all getting married like. Where in Toronto (pref west TO; Mississauga & environs) to find the bands?

- his/her need not match
- engagement ring is asscher cut diamond - icy/modern looking, not sparkly tiara princess looking. Therefore the band shouldn't be dainty. Classy elegant and solid.
- no stones. Just a band
- absolutely not crafty/etsy/nature inspired (yuck)
- looking for funky modern but not too modern (clean lines but no squares)
- I really dig the concave wedding band
- he's looking for something in a cool metal (tungsten? Titanium?) with some detailing like a line running around it. Brushed metal not polished.
- budget $300-$500 per ring; could go higher for a gorgeous ring

Which stores would have rings like this? I've looked online and it's hard to tell based on the website if the store carries the style I want. Thanks in advance for helping to narrow the search!

Based on how you describe what your fiancé wants it should be pretty easy and affordable. A brushed titanium ring wont cost much (see for example 1, 2). I linked to etsy but a ring like that is something any decent jewelry store should be able to obtain for you if you go in and talk to them. Your requirements sound similarly simple, aside from the slightly unusual concave thing, you might consider just making a fun shopping day and talking to a couple local jewelers just to see what they say.

I'm in the market for some replacement wedding rings, and found some (not purchased yet) on eBay for under $50 apiece. The rings I found were tungsten, some with cool details and some very plain. Might be worth a look, even just for ideas.

The rings you are after are very straightforward. Any jeweler will be able to order them for you. Unless your jeweler only sells handwork it would be unlikely to fabricate those types of rings in shop because they are available from manufacturers (cheaper and easier). We ordered my husband's wedding band from the jeweler who made my rings. He had three catalogs to choose from and had the ring in stock in about a week.

I wouldn't try to figure out who has rings in stock. Instead, figure out which jeweler you want to work with long-term and have him do the order.

I have a tungsten band -- plain, pipecut, comfort fit; I think this is it -- that I got from EWeddingBands.com about 122 months ago. (Our 10 year anniversary was 8 Oct).

I liked the idea because titanium rings were way too light; I wanted something that felt more substantial.

It's not a shiny as it was to begin with, but it's still completely devoid of any scratches or imperfections. That's kind of cool.

Anyway, where I'm going with this is that dude rings are crazy easy to get online because the simple, classic styles are pretty static. You pick a width, and a cut, and any interior finish you want (comfort fit was probably someone's trademark at some point, but it's been Xeroxed), and there you go.

Your ring is harder to do online, obviously, but check out www.e-weddingbands.com for him -- our experience was pretty solid.

Best answer: I would recommend both Made You Look, and The Devil's Workshop (both on Queen St in Toronto). Made You Look houses a collective of jewelers who do custom work, as well as ready-made stuff. Devil's Workshop also does custom work along with retailing her own and other local jeweler's work. Definitely worth contacting both with the info you've provided above, and your budget, and seeing what they can recommend for you.

I would also recommend Kim Drosdick specifically (formerly at Made You Look). I think her designs might be a good match for your tastes, though she might be a bit more expensive than your budget. Doesn't hurt to reach out and ask though!
