Help me find a creative use for an awkward ledge in my kid's room!

We are doing some renovations on our house, and one of our kid rooms will have a corner 3x5 foot ledge which is 4 feet above ground, and around 5 feet from the ceiling. We are trying to come up with a use for the space, and we are stymied. The architect is suggesting use of it as a closet, which is fine (but we're having trouble envisioning it as a proper space). I thought about making it a bit bigger and putting the bed up there as well, but with either a 3 year old boy or a newborn girl taking the room, neither seem like a fantastic idea. Hive mind, help me find a cool use for the space (or convince me to use it as closet space or a bed!). Thanks.

Make a 3x5 padded cushion and throw some colourful pillows up there and make it a fort for the 3yr old.

Can you enclose it up to the ceiling, add a ladder, and make it a "treehouse"? I'm thinking something that looks like a treehouse from outside, with little windows. I personally would have flipped out for such a thing as a kid, although I don't know if we're currently letting 3-year-olds climb ladders on their own.

Yeah, faux-treehouse/hiding space would be my way to go. If not a ladder, maybe start with a few (removable, but not easily movable) stairs?

YES INDOOR TREEHOUSE! If you're not sure about the ladder, you could put stairs, and make another little hideout below. You could have treehouse above, cave below and your kid will win kids' rooms for all eternity.

Yes, please make an indoor treehouse fort with a ladder. Please be the best father ever.

Please.

Sounds like it would make a great place for a changing station if this ends up bringing the baby's room. Or add a desktop and a bookshelf to make it into a sweet desk.

One of the bedrooms in my parents' house had that sort of thing, though there's was enclosed on three sides. The people they bought it from had used it as a playhouse for their young daughter. There was a set of IKEA Trofast drawers that acted as storage / steps leading up to the platform. She had books and toys and pillows up there.

Once that became my bedroom (I was a little old for toys at 19, and a little tall for the ceiling clearance at 5'7"), we just used it for storage. If I had actually been living at home full time, I think I'd have made more deliberate use of it, but since I wasn't, we mostly just piled stuff in there.
