'70s era cookie recipe from Sunset magazine

(Asking for a friend) Mom and I used to use a 1970s cookie recipe from Sunset magazine for making Christmas cookies every year, which I now cannot find anywhere in the kitchen. All I really remember about the recipe is the photo that accompanied it. It's a little girl proudly holding up a cookie she made from the recipe. I believe she shaped it into a number (possibly a 5?) for her birthday. It is a plain cookie, so it doesn't have any unique ingredients. Possibly sugar cookie.

Are you sure it doesn't have anything unusual in it? Even a plain cookie could have an unexpected ingredient (my mom's sugar cookies have almond flavoring in them, I think..)

Otherwise, there's a modern Sunset recipe here.

And separately someone has posted on various "how to" sites a recipe they say came from late 60s Sunset. The best explanation is on Wikihow, but the Sunset magazine description shows up e.g. here.

Response by poster: Thanks, folks, this is a promising lead! I'll make sure she sees this update.

Ultimately she's looking to get a photocopy of the page, or even a copy of the issue itself.

Wow, the photo in the Sunset clipping in longdaysjourney's link even has a girl decorating a cookie shaped like a 5. This world is amazing.

Best answer: Here's a larger version of the image from that webpage. The resolution won't be great, but it's big enough to print & easily read the recipe.

Best answer: If the version that belladonna linked to won't work, I can scan the whole page at work today. I'm sure that we have the issue at my library.

Response by poster: MetaFilter comes through once again! She thinks the Easy-to-Shape recipe is the one!

Elly Vortex: if it's not too much trouble, she'd really appreciate a quality scan of the page.

Just in case anything happens to the link, here's the text for posterity:

3/4 cup butter or margarine at room temperature
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
~3 cups all-purpose flour, unsifted
1 tsp each baking powder and salt

Beat butter and sugar together till creamy. Beat in eggs and vanilla and set aside. In another bowl, stir together 2 3/4 cups of the flour, the baking powder, and salt; add to butter mixture and stir to form a soft dough. (If made ahead, cover and chill up to 3 days. Let dough reach room temperature before using.)

Divide the dough into 12 equal portions. On a lightly floured, ungreased baking sheet or board, roll each portion 1/8 inch thick. Cut around patterns, then lift off excess dough and set aside. Roll scraps again for additional cookies. Embellish with decorative toppings.

Bake in a 400-degree oven until edges begin to brown, about 8-10 mnutes. Remove immediately onto wire racks and cook completely before handling. Store in an airtight container. Makes about 1 1/2 dozen.

Response by poster: Elly Vortex also sent us a scan, and it was exactly what my friend was looking for. Here's the top of the page that was cropped in the previous image, and it shows a very happy girl holding up her 5 cookie!
