What to do with the nephews in New York tomorrow?

We need your last-minute NYC kid-entertainment advice! My BF and I are having the nephews stay at our place for the weekend. Unfortunately, one of us told the parents that the Saturday-night plans would include The Lion King, which was a bit premature. It seems that tickets are NOT available for any price we want to pay. So it's time for Plan B! But what is Plan B?

The nephews are 8 and 12 years old. They love all things sporty and video games. The last time they were here, we took them to the Transit Museum, and they loved it. We are located in Manhattan, and can drive if needed.

(Who would have thought the damn show would sell out after 18 years?)

Saturday late afternoon into evening is the time slot.

Best answer: I don't know if you're looking to replace the show, but the Lincoln Center production of The King and I is fantastic.

Best answer: My kids of that age loved Stomp! We prefaced with burgers at Bareburger and followed up with Momofuku Milk Bar walk-in for cookies and other treats to take home. Really, Stomp was perfect (for all of us)! Seats are still available.

Best answer: Stomp would be a great choice. Blue Man Group could be fun, too.

Best answer: Or maybe Aladdin, for another broadway/Disney musical.

Best answer: Rent Citibikes and ride along the Hudson River Greenway, stopping to walk along the High Line, and possibly at the Staten Island Ferry building, and take the free ferry ride over to Staten Island and back looking at the city lights. Make it a video game to get the citibike back to the next docking station before the 30 minutes is up so you only have to pay the daily fee and no overage charges.

Best answer: My 17-year-old son says you would be the best relative ever if you took them to either Forbidden Planet or Midtown Comics which has three locations, the one in Times Square being most awesome. He said if you're in Times Square, take them to Maoz to eat falafels and just let them spend hours browsing and reading comics. Walk around Times Square, look at all the people.

Best answer: Seconding Blue Man Group. We've taken two nephews to it and will take two more. It's fun for the kids and for adults. Try to get seats in the splash zone!

Response by poster: Thanks for all the great suggestions. The nephews' mom called this morning to say that the older one woke up with an ear infection, which means no city outing for them. We'll definitely plan further in advance for the next visit.
