Help me remember this British (?) educational cartoon I saw around 1989

I have a dim memory of a cartoon in which, if I remember right, a scientific badger sort of fellow goes on adventures with Wind In The Willows type dudes. Most likely they go into outer space.

The lingering image I have is of a sun flaring its rays over a planet at the end, in what might have been an homage to the end of Star Trek II, as the badger (?) hero zips off at the end of a job well done. Any ideas? It seems like it must have been British, or at least the badger was.

I might be way off with the year, too.

Any help much appreciated.

Best answer: I think you might be thinking of Rupert. I seem to recall an episode where he goes to the moon with a raccooney sort of fellow.

Best answer: After googling a bit, I think I may be conflating episodes of Rupert with that time Tintin went to the moon. I know I watched both shows about the same time.

Can confirm that the raccooney sort of fellow is actually a badger. A badger named Bill Badger.

You might be thinking of another of Rupert's friends, Pong Ping, who since he was supposed to be Chinese may have had access to rockets and firecrackers and sundry whiz bang explodey things.

Best answer: There was an episode called "Rupert Bear and the Space Pilots", but the end is a big moon, not a flaring sun.

Best answer: Could it be Dr Snuggles? The main character is a human inventor but he sometimes visits other planets in his rocket ship and has a friend called Dennis the badger.
