Sat Dec 5 - Tue Dec 8: Southern USA, or Arts Festival, or...?

We've got airmiles to burn and a long weekend at the start of December. Probably looking for info on a city in southern USA or some arts festival in the Americas.

We want somewhere fairly warm (so not NY or Chicago or Canada) in a similar timezone to Chile. A city, probably, where we don't have to drive. New Orleans is a possibility (live Jazz a plus, but perhaps not the kind of Jazz in New Orleans) - I've always thought southern USA should be interesting, culturally, but have no real clue.

Or maybe somewhere in S or Central America where we've not been (ie not Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia or Mexico). Montevideo, perhaps? Or Cuba?!

Interested in art (mainly visual, also music + cinema), good (and unusual) food, walking around, maybe shopping (clothes, crafts). For examples, we like NY and BBAA.

This is pretty broad, I know, but one reason I am asking is that we wondered if anywhere had some kind of "festival" that weekend (like the Sao Paulo Biennial, which we keep missing).

So, any advice? Thanks, and sorry for yet another travel Q today.

Southern USA, you say? Festival, you say? December 5?

Well, it's not arts, but....

The Southeastern Conference American college football Championship Game is in Atlanta on December 5. There will be at least 71,500 people there, indoors in the Georgia Dome, with countless thousands more around the stadium/elsewhere in the city, in as close as America comes to how big a deal soccer is everywhere else.

On a more general note: Most of the Southern US will require driving around. Public transit isn't really a thing. Atlanta and (especially) New Orleans are the exceptions, and are legitimately reasonable for walking/train-riding around. It can be cool that time of year, but likely to be be above freezing.

I live in Memphis, which is a fine city but where you'd probably need a car. Also, we have the St. Jude Marathon that Saturday, so that specific time could be a little tricky downtown.

If you are able to switch things around so that your long weekend begins a bit earlier Art Basel Miami (actually in Miami Beach) is that weekend. It's usually still pretty warm in December, but very rarely hot by then.

Charleston is very walkable (assuming we aren't still under water at that point) as long as you stay on the peninsula. There's plenty of art, history, and amazing food, although you seem to have missed the the main festivals. The temperature could range anywhere from 70s or 80s during the day to 40s or 50s, depending on the weather pattern we're in.
