Body work for osteoporosis?

I have a friend (female, 55) who has hip pain caused by osteoporosis (which has been hastened by chemo, some 10 years ago). I want to get her some sort of body work (e.g. massage, cranial sacral) as a birthday present.

If I got a gift certificate for a massage, she would not know what to get that would be best for her, so I'd like to get specific. What exactly should I get for her?

I have 'trochanteric bursitis' in both hips.

Please ask your friend what she would like along these lines. If you want it to be a surprise gift, please choose something less personal. I would not want somebody else choosing my health care for me. (But maybe she's been advised to get pricy shoe inserts, and would love help with the cost...)

Massage has been repeatedly recommended but I have never enjoyed massage and the idea of somebody doing anything near my hips is a lot of OH GOD PLEASE NO. And I would be really sad if somebody bought me a quack/woo-type of bodywork. But who knows -- maybe your friend would enjoy huffing a wide selection of nice-smelling oils as a placebo.

If you already know that she would enjoy a massage, ignore me, but ask the practitioner for guidance on what kind.

This site talks about what kinds of massage are okay for someone with osteoporosis.

I'm a massage therapist.

Please, please, please do not do anything unless and until she has a note from her doctor stating that it is OK with them if she receives massage, and any restrictions as to pressure and areas worked.

If I had someone come in asking for a massage--even Swedish--who had osteoporosis AND had gone through chemo, I would not touch the hip area with a ten foot pole without a doctors note. And I would use ridiculously light pressure elsewhere unless I were told otherwise by a doc.

Response by poster: Ok, I won't be getting a message for her. Thanks for the advice.
