FalafelFilter: Lower Haight falafel place in the early 2000s

Back in the early 2000s - around 2001-2003 there was an awesome falafel place near the corner of Haight and Fillmore. I'm less interested in the place, but would love to find a similar style of falafel in the East Bay / Oakland.

The main thing I remember about their falafels was that they weren't rolled in a lavash, but shaped more like a flattened triangle that was grilled for a little bit extra crunch (still using a lavash). The falafel itself had the usual ingredients, but included thick slices of carrot and also fries, if I recall correctly.

I'm guess this isn't a particular style of falafel, is it? But in all the years since, I've never been to a place that made them the same way. Can anyone lend some insight into falafels made this way – namely the shape. I'd love help finding an example of such a taste explosion in mouth in the bay area? Maybe even Oakland?

ali baba's cave (south side of haight)? Closed yelp review shows the former address as 531 haight. They had/have another location at 19th and valencia so you may just be in luck.

Response by poster: Sorry, should've been more specific. It was on the northeast side of Haight/Fillmore. I know Ali Baba's and it wasn't that place.

That is the corner with Lo-Cost Meats? (and, formerly, Cuco's)?

Response by poster: Yeah, I believe it was in the same spot as what is now House of Thai.

Could it have been Ya-Halla? the House of Thai spot at 494 Haight has been oh so many places, but this suggests it was at one point a middle eastern spot:

Have you tried Liba Falafel? Not triangular, but crunchy and crazy delicious. And in Oakland!

KQED's recent guide to Bay Area falafel joints made me think of this thread. Perhaps it'll be of help.
