Not the Marsupials

I really love The Wombats. In particular, the clever (sometimes morbid) lyrics, and the heavy '80s sound. What else should I be listening to? I am well versed in actual '80s music, so please tell me about recent music (2000 - now) that fits this mold.

Best answer: Others I consider about the same genre:
- We are Scientists
- The Bravery
- The Futureheads
- Two Door Cinema Club
- Haim (Should have said them first, their music immediately hit me with an 80s feel)
- The Maccabees

We Are Scientists
The Young Knives
Maxïmo Park
Two Door Cinema Club

Best answer: I have a Spotify playlist of post-2000 songs that I use for making my teenage daughter guess if a song is from the 80s. Not seeing any of your bands on it right now, but it might be useful anyway. (And I will be investigating yours, for future rounds of our demented little game show...)

Best answer: 80s veteran here, and the first band I thought of was Das Pop:

I Can't Get Enough of Your Love

I Me Mine

The Game

Best answer: You might like the work of Stephin Merrit , which is always witty and frequently morbid, and often has an 80s synth feel. All his projects are great, but Future Bible Heroes probably feels the most 80-ish. Examples include Losing Your Affection and I Am A Vampire.
