Sketchy song ID: early '90's alt rock

Probably early nineties. I recall it sounding like a hybrid of Belly and Green Apple Quick Step.

I feel like this song was on the radio in Boston all the time, but I have not heard it since. It stoked me so hard when I was 10 or 12 years old, I am prepared to be disappointed! It's been nagging me, Who is this band?? I remember one melodic line (the "chorus"), but don't know the words at all. So, I will shamelessly make it up.

2 singers (maybe. Maybe one), 1st sings: "Come oooover meeeee" 2nd: "In the way that I speak"
Ha! Could be any combination of words around those vowel sounds. "Too faaaarrr to seeee" "Come gohhhh with meeee" --- "In a way that I see" "If I wake in a dream"

Lines 1 and 2 get repeated, the repeat of line 1 has a slight pitch shift, higher, in the third syllable. The feel was sort of grunge or poppy peri-grunge/college rock.

Can you sing a bit of the melody and post it?

That sort of sounds like it might be Bettie Serveert's Tomboy.

REM- Fall on Me?

Response by poster: No to all the above (except I might work out a recording of me humming it). Less electronic than Curve, but that's about the right sound. I don't know if the vocals were male or female, or alternate (guy sings lines 1 and 3, woman: 2 & 4... or not). More uptempo than INXS, but still kind of tortured, and lesser known band as well.

Now I really need to watch this thread b/c I have googled every permutation on the lyrics and NOTHING--and it's totally stuck in my head! I remember the chorus sort of reminded me of part of the Fuel song "Shimmer", the part that's like "too faaarrrr awaaaay for to hold"--but w/ a female vocalist. And a completely different song. Pretty sure it was an "alterna" one-hit wonder kind of thing. Also, I think it is late 90s/early 2000s, not early 90s, and I am 90% sure we are thinking of the same song!

bookworm4125's comments make me think of Mighty KC by For Squirrels.

@jabes, it's definitely not that. It's not really similar to the Fuel song at all except for that one particular part.

Response by poster: Yeah, bookworm4125, good comparison with the chorus of "Shimmer." We probably are in sync! Still thinking it was early nineties, though, who knows.

Would it have been on FNX?

It's definitely tickling something in my memory.

Best answer: Could it be Auscultate by Salt? The chorus starts about a minute in.

YES! I kept checking back hoping someone would find it, as it's been in my head since I read the question! And I kept thinking "Veruca Salt" but I knew that was totally wrong..now I know why I thought that. Phew!
