Power animal for this specific branding project (part 2)

After your pursuing a lot of your recommendations from last time, I am looking for animals that are not specific to any kind of "business", rather those that exude luxury and elegance. Also, different cultures (countries, areas, societies) view animals differently, so what kind of animals does your culture associate with these qualities?

I am also interested in what you think are the most luxurious and prestigious, not necessarily famous ones.

In the past, Russian Wolfhounds were often used as symbols of luxury and elegance. Lots of old photos of Gilded Age socialites with a pair of Wolfhounds on leash.

I attended a show at Ace Gallery here in Los Angeles with professional museum quality photographs of A list celebrities by a well known photographer. The photographer also included a black panther in the show. The panther cast all of the A list celebrities in its shadow by comparison.

Response by poster: Interesting that there aren't many sea creatures here.

I was trying to come up with 'luxurious' or 'prestigious' critters from Australia, and I'm having trouble with that one; they're too prickly or poisonous or they piss on you.

Interesting that there aren't many sea creatures here.

Too cold and wet. Maybe a pelican?

Of sea creatures, I'd say seahorse. But the first animals that came to mind for me were panther and Persian cat.

Cheetahs came to mind for me. King Cheetahs, to be more precise. A pair with diamond-studded collars and silver chains as leashes would be quite elegant and luxurious. They were kept by the affluent in Africa as well as nobility in the Roman era as pets and to provide entertainment (via hunts).

Discus are highly prized in the aquarium world thanks to their brilliant markings and colorations. They are difficult to reliably acquire, delicate, difficult to keep and typically quite expensive. Some varieties are particularly elegant looking.

White Butterfly Koi are quite the highly thought of fish as well. Their fins are lovely and I think they could lend themselves well to a luxury brand because of them. They're highly regarded in Japan and considered a symbol of "luck, prosperity and good fortunate". There's some wonderful information about their cultural significance (far too much for me to post here) at YourKoiPond.

As far as horses go... Andalusians were prized by Spanish nobility for their prowess as war horses and the frequent mount of kings. They've been around since the 15th century and are considered the Pure Spanish Horse. They excel in dressage (ie: horse ballet). Not unlike Andalusians, Lippizzan excel in a particular style of dressage (ie: classical with air jumping) and are world-renowned for it. Tremendous effort goes into selecting the animals -- only the best, most flawless will do. They're known for entertaining the affluent. Akhal-Teke were tremendously important to the Turkish people for survival and considered sacred by Russians. They're known for their speed, endurance and the metallic sheen to their coats.

And adding onto quincunx's sighthound suggestions: salukis are considered the Royal Dog of Egypt. They were mummified and buried with Pharaohs and even appear on tomb walls. They were popular as hunting dogs and the only breed allowed to live with Bedouin women.
