ESL classes in Atlanta metro area

Can anyone recommend any places/people (universities/community colleges, private teachers, nonprofit organizations, etc) that do ESL lessons in the Atlanta metro area and that do a good job for their students?

I have a family member living about 40 miles south of Atlanta who needs ESL classes and who has been disappointed by recent changes in staffing at the community college he was attending until recently. Apparently, the places he's tried so far had good teachers at one point and now longer do. Thought it'd be worth a shot to see if anyone had recommendations for good ESL teachers in the area, whether they operate privately or through a university/community college. The more affordable the better, obviously, but at this point we'd appreciate any pointers. Thanks!

Best answer: There's a ESL specific teaching qualification called a CELTA. As a part of this qualification, teachers need to teach actual students -- and students volunteer for this.

Your family member could join one of the classes as a volunteer. Places that teach the CELTA usually have really good teachers. (Alternatively, if he likes one of the teachers, he could ask if they would consider private tutoring.) Some local Universities may also need volunteer learners for this.

Here's a random link I found in Atlanta. You can search for other CELTA places in/around Atlanta.

Response by poster: Thank you! This was very helpful--he'll start going to a local CELTA class next month!
