How rare are Mushroom Islands really?

A simple question about Minecraft that I'm finding no firm answer for online. With the default settings and without mods, how frequently do mushroom islands come up?
To put it into more concrete terms: Suppose you have a map object at maximum scale, which is to say, 2048x2048 blocks. What is the probability that there is a mushroom island biome somewhere in the area covered by that map?

Response by poster: PC version 1.8. Do the biome frequencies vary greatly between editions?

Not sure. I assume the PC has more information as we only very recently got both Infinite and Flat World Types (used to be only what is now called 'old').
I do know that the seeds from platform to platform vary; I can't use the same seed in PC and PE (phone and tablet version) and get the same layout. I can't even use the same seed between world types and get the same result.

For what it's worth, I've never seen one (currently running 1.87 on a PC).
