Seeking suggestions for a group vacation/outing!

In my friend group we have the tradition of doing a little trip when someone turns 30. I'm the last one to hit that milestone, in a little over a year...and I'm looking for some good vacation ideas! Past outings have included an extended cabin trip in Big bear, and 3-day cruise, a trip to Cabo.

A few restrictions:
7-8 people (3 couples and meeee + maybe another friend, since a lot of places price by double occupancy)
prefer to keep it $1100 & under/person--cheaper is always better
4-6 days including any travel time
We're all in late-20s to mid-30s.
We are not at all the clubbing/bar type--we like hiking, eating, board games, exploring, museums, nature, relaxation, art, photography
We are coming from LA

Some ideas I was throwing around:
- half week at a dude ranch
- yellowstone
- arizona/sedona area
- dominican republic
- hawaii
- NOLA
- Catalina
- Montreal?
- south america (would only be doable if it just becomes a larger trip bundled with my birthday)

Not considering:
- Vegas
- anywhere in SoCal
- SF/Monterey
- Portland

I don't know if some of these are completely off base given my restrictions, I haven't done much research yet. For places that require flying this would of course be contingent on finding a really great flight deal (will be constantly browsing skyscanner/other sites), and probably finding a deal on a vacation rental.

Where should we go?

Since NOLA is on your list there is a lower Mississippi river Steamboat cruise that hits New Orleans & Memphis. Friends of mine did this and it's now on my bucket list.

Key West! We went down there with a group and were able to rent a few houses that were absolutely spectacular -- private pools, surrounded by foliage, all that. We were far enough from Duval St. that we could enjoy all of the quirky bits during the day but didn't get bothered by drunk people at night. Lots of late night dining, sitting on the beach (not a lot of swimming, but wading and relaxing), wandering around town exploring the architecture, etc. I wonder if they might have some smaller cruises to Cuba available, too.

How are you on a boat? You could go on a schooner or topsail ketch or something.

Zion National Park is 6.5 hours away and it is stunning. With your budget you could easily have a really giant, cool accommodations. The compact nature of Zion Canyon offers lots of different types of experiences all in a relatively small area.

Sequoia and King's Canyon National Parks is a 3.5 hours away and are also stunning. You undoubtedly know what Sequoia features and King's Canyon is a giant deep granite canyon that is spectacularly beautiful. It is also seemingly unknown to many people. Mrs. mmascolino and I were there a few years ago in June and we might have saw a half dozen people all day and we were hardly off the beaten path.

I would totally go to Costa Rica. Swimming, surfing, eating, hiking, zip-lining, and a rain forest.
