Please help me understand if this is a bedbug.
I found it dead on my sheets this morning.
On the one hand, 1) I spent the whole day outside yesterday (uncharacteristic for me), and 2) I've noticed a lot of little dead flies and mosquitos collect on the windowsill not too far from my bed (I think they get stuck in between the blinds and the window and roast in the sun :-( ).
On the other hand it's a small black bug I found in my bed and I live in New York City, the hometown of bedbugs. My building has had a bedbug report before, but it was ~5 years ago.
It's very small, so it was hard to get photos, but I did my best with a magnifying glass: http://imgur.com/a/rWCnO. Sorry that the ruler marking switches from inches to centimeters in one of the photos.

For future reference, bedbugs aren't black. Even if they've darkened after a meal, there's still a distinct reddish/brownish tinge especially around the edges.

Almost certainly a beetle, maybe a carpet beetle?

Bedbugs look like little Advils -- same roundish shape, same burnt sienna/John Boehner color.

Yeah, that's not a bedbug. I've had a few weird beetles show up in my apartment as the temperature has gotten warmer, so that's probably what you've got going on.
