Need to convert a brocade sari into a skirt in NYC.

I just bought a gorgeous sari, got it home, and realized it's way too heavy and desperately needs a liner. No problem, I can just get it converted into a lehenga (long skirt)...I think?
Downsides:
The fabric is quite heavy, brocade, and has beading throughout.
Plus sides:
There's at least 8 feet of it, so lots of room to work with.
1. Has anyone done this before, and how did it work out?
2. Does anyone have recommendations for tailors in NYC, particularly around Williamsburg?
I'm cool with taking the fabric anywhere, with these requirements:
1. They have to be fluent in English so I can explain myself.
2. They have to be cool with screwing up a sari.

Best answer: I can highly recommend this tailor in Gowanus (not an Indian tailor, but she can definitely handle it).
