Design the perfect dog friendly day in Point Reyes

Coming from Tahoe via Vallejo. Probably sometime in the next few weekends. Assume I have about 4 hours once I arrive at the visitor center. Prettiest, easy to get to dog friendly beach (I have a 12 year old little mutt, still spry but not ready for a killer hike)? Better to go on a Sunday than on a Sunday? Any must do cheap eats?

Best answer: I haven't been there in a while, but since no one else has chimed in, I think the only dog-friendly beaches are the ocean-facing ones. Occasionally a large dead sea creature washes up and getting to sniff at that will make your dog's year.

Best answer: As per the NPS, the beaches that are very easy to get to and dogs can go on are Great Beach, Limantour and Drakes. Heed the warnings about riptides. They're pretty nice, but often there is a lot of wind.

As for food, I don't know of anything that's must-do, but there are several oyster-purveyors on up and down Highway-1. You're probably better off going into San Francisco or the East Bay if you really want something good-to-great, even though it'll take you at least an hour to get there (probably more if you take the One going south from Point Reyes, instead of going inland to the 101).

Best answer: Dunno about cheap eats, but the cheeses at Cowgirl Creamery in downtown Pt Reyes Station are pretty awesome.

Best answer: Point Reyes Station has some nice little places to eat. We like the Station House Cafe. http://www.stationhousecafe.com
