Best driving school in Manhattan, NYC?

Looking for a good, reliable driving school in Manhattan. Have checked Yelp and come up with a couple of names, but there are some negative reviews of all of them, including criticisms such as the school taking your money and then not having enough instructor times available. This is for a 22-year-old first-time driver who does not have a car available and will need to hire the school for lessons plus driving him to test at the end.

I have no idea, but I would NOT learn how to drive in Manhattan. Try for one in Queens or a quiet part of Brooklyn to save yourself some crashes, just an idea.

I took a 5 hour course last year, then never was able to schedule a road test, so I recently took another class with a different school; http://www.grandprixdrivingschool.com

The class was much better than the first time. I intend to get some lessons with them. I assume the actual driving happens up in Harlem or Bronx.

Best answer: I took drivers ed near my Bronx high school but never took the road test. 14 years later, I went to Professional Driving School of the Americas for a few refresher lessons before my road test.

The two instructors I had were attentive and helpful. I had my own car, so I did not need their test day services. All lessons were taught in a car equipped with two sets of brake pedals for safety.

Be aware that scheduling road tests in NYC is tough - you may have to wait a month or two for a convenient appointment. Best of luck!
